Smart Radiant Design in Action

After setting the perfect base, the next step was to give the slab its “circulatory system.” The team installed oxygen-barrier PEX tubing using an engineered layout that mirrors what every smart builder wants in a heated shop, garage, or barn — comfort, control, and efficiency.

Project Overview

Each loop of PEX would carry warmth through the slab, but precision mattered. Uneven spacing can create hot and cold zones, and when you’re running equipment or housing animals, consistent heat distribution is everything.

Following the engineered plan ensures precise PEX spacing for consistent heat and reliable radiant performance.

The Heat-Sheet Advantage

Heat-Sheets molded nodules eliminated guesswork. Tubes snapped securely into channels at engineered intervals — tight at exterior walls, wider in low-loss interior areas — delivering uniform comfort and maximum energy efficiency.

The organized manifold zones made it easy to label, connect, and balance circuits. The design approach wasn’t just about following a drawing; it was about setting up a building that works smarter. For garages, that means quick warm-ups on cold starts. For barns, it means even heat that keeps the environment stable for livestock and workers alike.

Planning starts at the manifold. Kyle maps out clean, organized zones to keep every radiant loop easy to label, balance, and service.

The Challenge

Traditional staple-down systems are time-consuming and inconsistent. In open-span spaces, staples pop, lines drift, and tubing can float during the pour — leading to headaches later.

Heat-Sheet’s molded nodules allow installers to walk PEX tubing directly into place, keeping lines secure and spacing locked in throughout the install.

The Result

The tubing install went down in hours, not days, with every loop following the grid perfectly. Reinforcing mesh rested above the nodules, ensuring the tubing stayed embedded and protected during the pour. The field looked clean, professional, and future-proof — a hallmark of the Heat-Sheet system.

Wrapping Up

Radiant performance starts with layout accuracy. With Heat-Sheet, that precision comes built-in — for shops, garages, and barns where comfort, efficiency, and craftsmanship meet.

About the Builder

This project comes from RR Buildings, led by Kyle Stumpenhorst — known for elevating post-frame construction through precision, craftsmanship, and innovation. His Dream Shop build sets the benchmark for how modern shops, garages, and barns can combine strength with radiant-ready performance.

Every stage of this radiant slab install reflects Kyle’s builder mindset: do it right, or don’t do it at all. And Heat-Sheet® Heavy fits that philosophy perfectly.
