With multiple Building Shows reporting that more new homes are choosing radiant floor heating systems (as reported by Canadian Contractor), it’s important for builders and homeowners to have all the necessary information in order to make the best decision possible.
When it comes to radiant floor heating systems, the installation of the under-slab insulation and the pex piping itself can be back-breaking and time-consuming. This blog post will show you how Heat-Sheet®’s innovative design will save installers time and money.

The Benefits of Heat-Sheet® – The Innovative Under Floor Radiant Heat Panels
- HIGHER DENSITY FOAM = FEWER CRUSHED NODULES + LESS BREAKAGE & WASTE
Heat-Sheet®’s preformed nodules are tough.
Why? Because they’re made with high density expanded polystyrene or EPS, which is engineered to an impressive minimum compression strength of 25 psi. This allows Heat-Sheet® to support the weight of cast-in-place concrete as well as foot traffic.
The result? Less breakage and waste on the job site (as well as less replacement materials and a lesser need for additional labor).
But Heat-Sheet® doesn’t stop there. The panels aren’t just durable; they’re also compact and easy-to-handle, measuring just 2’ x 4’.
- NO VAPOR BARRIER REQUIRED
Because Heat-Sheet® is made at a higher density, it also acts as a built-in vapor barrier, eliminating the need for having an additional one. (This is based upon the thickness of the panel used and local building code requirements.)
- INTERLOCKING PANELS = NO MORE TAPING
Traditional radiant floor heating panels require a lot of assembly time, but with Heat-Sheet®, the panels simply interlock together, which means you don’t have to spend any time taping them together. The interlocking edges also ensure a stable fit.
The tubing is then easily “walked into place”, eliminating the traditional material and labor costs that are encountered when having to install heavy metal mesh and then use wire-ties or staples to keep the tubing in place.
- MORE POINTS OF CONTACT = MORE SECURE FRICTION FIT FOR THE PIPING
As you can see below, Heat-Sheet® is designed with “two points of contact per nodule”. The greater the number of points of contact, the more secure a friction fit you get for the piping. This is further enhanced because the depth of the nodules is ⅞”, which provides the perfect balance of protection and security for the piping, while still minimizing concrete costs.
- LOW PROFILE NODULES = 20% LOWER CONCRETE COSTS
As you can see in the image above, Heat-Sheet®’s preformed nodules are lower profile. This reduces concrete costs. In fact, Logix Brands estimates that builders can save up to 20% of their concrete costs using Heat-Sheet® versus other panel varieties.
- HIGH R-VALUE
Heat-Sheet® was designed to reduce time and money as well as to conserve energy. This is because it’s made with expanded polystyrene (EPS) – one of the most energy efficient materials on the market today. And Heat-Sheet® products are available from R-4 to R-20.
Heat-Sheet® panels are also a much more environmentally friendly and sustainable option than extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation panels because less raw materials are required to produce them. In addition, Heat-Sheet®’s consistent grid pattern allows for heat to be evenly distributed.
Wrapping It Up
Installing radiant floor heating the traditional way is time-consuming and costly. Heat-Sheet®’s innovative under floor radiant heat panels require fewer steps and materials, resulting in quicker and more cost-effective installation.
